Meet Job Descriptions
1. Announcer. (home meets only) Announce events: First Call, Event Number, Event Description. Recognize our sponsors and make announcements about concession stand, parking, and other meet logistics. This volunteer needs to arrive early and stay in place for the entire meet. Comes with a script, and a bonus bird's-eye view of the pool.
2. Bullpen Worker. Bullpen workers check in swimmers when they arrive, help with marking up as needed, and help supervise and line up swimmers before and during the meet. For older bullpens it's mostly just providing supervision and making sure swimmers don't miss their events. Bullpen Workers need to arrive early (this is required) and stay for the duration of the meet. 6 & Under workers stay until the conclusion of the 6 & Under events.
3. Coach Food Donation. (home meets only) Help keep our hard-working coaches fed during a long meet shift (they start setting up at 2pm, and head coaches are working all day)! Please order platters from Publix at least 24 hrs. in advance, then deliver to the coaching office between 3-3:30pm on the day of the meet.
4. Concessions. (home meets only) Help our Pool Rats as they work the busy concession stand! Second shift end time is only an estimate - this shift ends when the meet is finished.
5. Deck Manager. MUST HAVE PRIOR SWIM MEET EXPERIENCE AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO READ A HEAT SHEET. This is a fast-paced job! Organize swimmers on deck by heat and lane and maintain order behind the starting blocks. First shift should check in at the volunteer table on arrival then report to the scoring tent at 5:10 for the timers' meeting. Second shift should check-in at the volunteer table before the meet (or text if you're arriving later) then find and swap with first shift after event #43.
6. Floater. EXPERIENCED PARENTS ONLY. Must have previous swim meet experience so you can jump in anywhere! Report to the Volunteer Table. Your job could be anything from timing, to assisting with bullpens/relay line-ups, notifying team admin/coaches about missing swimmers, or any other area where help is needed.
7. Greeter/Swimmer Escort. Escort swimmers to their bullpens when swimmers are dropped off, greet people and answer questions. May also need to assist with signs, cones, and reserved parking. Should wear a Cool Sharks t-shirt if you have one! AND you get to wear a stunning day-glo safety vest!
8. Place Judge. Record swimmers' placement (1st through 6th) at the end of each heat. Comes with a reserved pool-side seat! First shift should check in at the volunteer table on arrival then report to the scoring tent at 5:10 for the timers' meeting. Second shift should check-in at the volunteer table before the meet (or text if you're arriving later) and swap with the first shift after event #43.
9. Ribbons Worker. The morning after the meet, place labels on ribbons then sort and file them in the swimmers' files. Meet upstairs on the pool house balcony at 8:00. Need to stay until the job is finished.
10. Timer. Time each swimmer in the assigned lane with a stopwatch and record the result. First shift should check in at the volunteer table on arrival then report to the scoring tent at 5:10 for the timers' meeting. Second shift should check-in at the volunteer table before the meet (or text if you're arriving later) and find a first shift volunteer to replace after event #43.
11. Volunteer Table. You will assist at the Volunteer Table. This includes checking in volunteers, handing out equipment (bullpen boxes, stopwatches, clipboards, etc.), tracking down any missing volunteers, and managing the switch from first half to second half shifts. You will also sell t-shirts and spirit items. There are two volunteers so you can trade off to watch your kids swim during the meet. The end time for this shift is only an estimate - your shift will end when the meet is finished and all equipment has been collected.
