Time Trials
NEW for the 2025 season: we will have a Time Trials Meet on Monday, May 19th! We are going to run this like an actual meet, with heat sheets and bullpens and timers. More details to come!
This will be an excellent introduction to the swim meet experience for our newest Cool Sharks, and it will also be a great chance for parents to learn some of the different volunteer jobs in preparation for our real meets.
Time Trials provide an opportunity for swimmers to race for a time before the first meet of the season. They are designed to provide an initial baseline time from which to measure a swimmer's progress throughout the season. Pre-season baseline times help the coaches plan relays and place swimmers in the proper events and heats for our first meet. If you are new to swimming, know that swimmer's times are constantly being updated as they improve. The times earned at Time Trials are just a starting point.
Times earned at the Times Trials Meet will be considered "unofficial". They will be used by the coaches for meet entries and to build relay teams, but will not carry over from season to season and will not count towards Cool Sharks records.
Swimmers will be entered in all events for which they are ready. There will be no relays at this meet - only individual events. We will be especially focused on getting times for our new swimmers, for our 7-year-olds who are now swimming breast and fly, and for our 11-year-olds who are now swimming 50s (two laps instead of one).
Attendance at Time Trials is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. The coaches can also use a swimmer's times from last year or swimmers can be seeded with NT ("No Time"). The coaches will also pull times from USA Swimming for year-round swimmers (and for middle and high school swimmers if available). Swimmers may not submit their own times.
