End of Season Wrap Up
Enjoy this amazing video of our season: https://youtu.be/ptrhWOXQv-o (thank you Coach Sarah!)
What an amazing season we had this year! We welcomed several new coaches (Danielle, Hunter, Rachel, Alex J, Adrian, Henry, Margaret, Olivia, and Max) and were happy to welcome back our returning coaches Rebekah, Liam, Fiona, Sarah P, Lewis, Sarah S, Annie, Charlotte, Daniela, Halle, Alex K, Emily, and Zoe. Our coaches all did such a great job, and we want to thank them all for their hard work for our team and our kids. Their dedication, positive energy, love of this sport, and encouragement for every swimmer on the team truly set a wonderful example for our kids.
We said good-bye to 2 seniors: Sarah Schmid, who will be attending Georgia Tech, and Fiona Bray, who will be attending Princeton University. Congratulations seniors!! Best of luck as you head off to college this fall! (and hope to see you back as coaches again next year!)
We set 6 new team records this season:
- Harper McGill - Girls 9-10 25 Free - 13.98 (breaking the old record of 14.02 from 2023)
- Gabri Jones - Girls 9-10 25 Back - 16.22 (breaking the old record of 17.58 from 2023)
- Aubrey Jarun - Girls 11-12 50 Back - 30.48 (breaking the old record of 31.00 from 2022)
- Parker Wheeler - Boys 11-12 50 Free - 24.58 (breaking the old record of 26.16 from 2012); Boys 11-12 100 IM - 1:02.33 (breaking the old record of 1:06.86 from 2016); Boys 11-12 50 FL - 26.21 (breaking the old record of 27.21 from 2010). Parker's fly time also broke the ASA Championship record!
I've attached a top times report, showing the top ten Cool Sharks times
for each event (note that this report only goes back to 2006 when we started doing electronic timing - we have older paper times for our team records but they are not included here). Many of our swimmers broke into the top ten this season and earned a spot in Cool Sharks history!
We had an amazing 5-0 record this season (undefeated three years in a row!) and then came back to DOMINATE at Championships, defending our title as the 2024 ASA Division 2 Champions! Overall it was another remarkable season! We had lots of great parents who volunteered lots of hours, lots of great coaches who really worked hard with our kids, and most of all lots of great swimmers who improved their swimming and had great fun being part of our team. We hope you enjoyed this season as much as we did!
Please be on the lookout for our 5th Annual Swim Across America Swim-a-thon, coming in August! This is always a super fun event for our Cool Sharks swimmers (and parents too!) to swim laps to raise money for this wonderful organization!
Don't forget to check your ribbon boxes at the pool - there are still a lot of awards (incl. championship ribbons and medals, team award certificates, etc.) waiting to be picked up. We also have a large lost and found pile under the ribbon boxes, with books, t-shirts, shoes, goggles, towels, water bottles, etc. (lost-and-found stuff will be donated if not picked up by July 31st). Stop by anytime the pool is open!
Finally, if you're not ready for swim season to be over and want to keep swimming, we have a great Fall Swim Team! This is a developmental team for swimmers ages 4-18 (based on age as of 8/1/2024). Practices begin July 29th and end September 5th, with an end-of-season meet on Saturday morning September 7th at 9:00 am (six weeks of practice, one meet). Fall season is a smaller, more laid-back version of summer season, and is perfect for younger swimmers and beginners, as well as non-year-round swimmers who want to extend their swimming season a little longer or even high school swimmers who want to stay in shape before the high school season begins. See the Fall Swim Team tab on the coolsharks.org website (or click HERE) for more information. Registration opens July 15th at noon - this program is very popular and tends to sell out quickly so don't wait to register!
Go Cool Sharks! Hope to see you all next year! See the bottom of the page for next year's dates - mark your calendars! Please try to schedule camps, vacations, and other activities around our meets if you can (especially Championship week). July is the perfect time for beach trips and sleep-away camp :).
Thanks for a great season! Go Cool Sharks and keep swimming!
